Andrews swim team strikes gold in relays

ANDREWS – Local swimmers, fans, and families welcomed two teams of the Mountain Swim League to their home pool in Andrews July 10.
The Andrews Swim Team hosted this Tri-team meet against Jackson County and Waynesville on the same day due to a prior cancellation date by Waynesville earlier in the season.
Andrews strokers competed against some experienced swimmers in the league between the two opposing teams and showed once again even in their Cinderella season, they should not to be taken lightly.
Andrews took the gold in two team relay events and grabbed eight individual first place ribbons.
Newcomer to the sport, Erin Maennle 9, placed first in nearly every event she swam and qualifed for the all-star meet.
Jeremy Brannon, Adrian Garcia, Fabian Garcia and Dylan Rogers also qualified for the all-star time regulations. Zack Long placed first in the 11-12 year-old boys 50-yard breaststroke event and Jordan Pavelka swam to first in the 13-14 year-old boys 100-yard breastroke.
Andrews will not be hosting any more events this season, but they do have two more meets before the conference meet and all-star event.
“I have been surprised at the skills these kids have developed, mostly from the work that their parents have done with them at home in their own pools while not at practice,” Andrews head coach Mike Brannon said. “They’ve really come a long way already. We’ll be looking forward to getting back to practice and readying for the next meet.”
The Andrews Swim Team will go to Waynesville next to face the Waynesville and Murphy swim teams Thursday, July 17.

MY TURN:

Andrews swimmer Ariah Brown, 7, anxiously awaits her turn, encouraging her teammate Joanna Weaver, 7, to get to the wall. This was Ariah’s first meet this season helping her team to place second in the girls 8 and under 100-yard medley relay event.
